I am enjoying the new BBC drama Silk, court-room genre is a favourite of mine – the chance to see law and hopefully justice in action. I enjoy too seeing the court system beyond the court itself.
Maxine Peake takes the lead as barrister Martha Costello intent on justice for those she represents. Rupert Penry-Jones plays counter-point as Clive Reader more interested in a successful outcome for himself as for his clients and her main rival for the Silk. Newcomers to me Natalie Dormer and Tom Hughes play the barristers in waiting.
Court room dramas lend themselves easy to television series as each case can provide at least one episode and extend over many more. The US Law and Order franchise bears testament to that. Threading through this we have the personal and professional dramas of the characters themselves.
I am looking forward to many more Silk episodes with stalwart Martha Costello at the helm.
